Can I Make the Cut?

One of these days I am going to stop listening to other people's recommendations. Based on a recommendation by my friend Kaylyn, I started Jillian Michael's 30-day Making the Cut program today. After workout #1 and being red-faced and out of breath...not sure it was the best recommendation to take. But the program promises to get you in the best shape of your life; I'll keep you posted on if it works out or not.

If I'm still alive that is.

My Fun List

Based on my friend Kaylyn's recommendation, I picked up the book The Happiness Project this week, and am about halfway through it. There have been a lot of pieces here and there have really stood out to me (I'm sure you'll hear more about this in the next couple of weeks), but the one chapter I just read just begged to be written about. The chapter is titled "Be Serious About Play," which if you've ever read my blog, fits. I think playing and having fun is a huge part of your overall happiness, hence the quote my blog is based on.

In the middle of the chapter she talks about her goal to find more fun in her life. After reading it it got me thinking about the things I find truly fun. Here are the things I immediately put on my fun list, but I'm going to post this in my sidebar and continue to add to it as I find the things I do for the pure fun of them. Maybe if I remind myself of them, they won't get pushed behind the must-do's so often. What's on your fun list?
  • Writing in my journal
  • Playing the piano and singing or just singing
  • Playing volleyball or racquetball
  • Playing games (all sorts) with my family
  • Getting lost in a good book
  • Solving mysteries/finding answers to problems
  • Playing host/planning things/seeing other people have a good time
  • Girl's nights full of good conversation or just any conversation

Things You Do Not Want to See On A Cruise

The past week, well except for last Sunday, was exactly what I needed. The ship was HUGE, the entertainment was amazing (#1 for four years straight), the food was good, excursions were a lot of fun, and overall the week was the relaxing vacation I so desperately needed.

The week started off a little hectic. We decided to chance it and fly into Florida Sunday morning (our flight was supposed to get in at 11AM; the cruise left at 4:30 PM). We figured in the middle of the summer with beautiful weather, we would have no problems. And of course, we were wrong. Our plane took off from DC at 9ish and promptly turned around and landed back at the DC airport 10 minutes later and proceeded to cancel our flight. They smelled smoke in the cockpit so these guys met us on the runway.

JetBlue was great and managed to get us on a United flight that got into Orlando at 2:45 PM, which eventually got us to our cruise ship at 3:45. The last passengers were supposed to have boarded at 3:00 PM, but I guess I sounded desperate enough, and they let us on. Once we actually got on the boat and got to our room, I saw this and almost got off the boat. (The magazines were really laid out like this; I just took the picture.)

But then everything went smoothly. And I even took pictures that you'll get to see tomorrow but here's a little preview.
