Hola, Bonjour, and Ciao

Okay, well that picture didn't come out quite as clear as I'd hoped. But here's the gist of what it says.

We're going to Europe!!!

We bought the tickets (from here to Madrid and back from Rome) today and got a great deal ($575 RT). So looks like whether we've got the money saved up or not, we're on our way. We're going to start the trip in Madrid then it's on to Gaudi's Barcelona, followed by a trip up the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Week two is going to be all about Italy with a couple of days in Venice, Florence, and finishing up the whirlwind in Rome.

And I couldn't be more excited. I bought Rick Steve's guidebooks to Italy, France, and Spain and have been reading away all weekend. I've already sent out about 20 emails asking if people have rooms available and am making a list of our must-see destinations. So if you think something needs to be on our list, I'm open to all suggestions.

The next seven weeks will be filled with brushing up on my Spanish and googling the best gelato in Italy.

Buenas noches!

Oh my gosh...you'll have the most amazing time!

For the best gelato: when in Rome, head to the Piazza Navona. In one of the corners, they have a gelato place known for their chocolate gelato. It is like...chocolate with chunks of chocolate in it. Absolutely amazing! Once you get there, ask someone in the piazza where the gelato place is. I promise they'll know what you're talking about!

Oh my gosh, I love Italy!

If you're into designer stuff, the Prada outlet is a short train ride away from Florence. Take the train to Montevarchi and then ask one of the sketchy cabbies (who really do only know Italian) to take you to Prada. They'll drop you off in front of what looks like a minimum security prison (or industrial park) in the American suburbs, but inside it holds all the goods. Definitely a highlight of my trip there, as were the markets in Florence. And the food, of course! Wine is as cheap as water there, it's amazing!

Have a great time!!!

I just heard on the news yesterday about all the great airfare deals out there, and it looks like you got a good one!

As far as other money goes, plan on spending at least $100/day on food alone. Food in Europe is generally expensive. For me personally, I always plan on spending at least $100/day on food, and $100 extra for other stuff, like clothes and souvenirs. Believe me, once you see the gorgeous clothes, you'll have a hard time resisting!

Jealous. We've been getting the "get out of the country" itch for a while now. Remind me to give you a couple insider's Paris tips before you go...
