Want to hear what we're celebrating? The fact that not only did we get a new apartment last week, but I got a new job as well. I've been looking for about four months now and found something that just hits the spot (kind of like that Rocky Road ice cream I just scarfed). I've been going through the interviewing process for the last three weeks and finally got word on Friday that they were going to offer me the position.
It's not that I didn't like my old job, I actually really enjoy it. I was just in need of change. Plus the new office is within walking distance of the new apartment. How much more perfect could it get? I think that's what some people call destiny. It- no commute- is what I call heavenly.
So that's it. I know people change jobs all the time, but this is a pretty big switch for me. No more Foosball games (sad I know) or lunch at Cal Tort. I'm heading into the big leagues with this one. I may even be able to go home for lunch every once in a while. To eat my lunch in our beautiful new kitchen.
Oh wait I forgot to mention the best (or at least pretty close to the best) part. When they offered me the job, they asked if I would like to take some time off between my last and first days. I currently had no vacation time left (until Christmas) so those words- time off- were exactly what I needed to hear, and it couldn't be more perfect. I was already planning on taking off next Friday to go see my great grandparents renew their wedding vows with my family in Kansas but was planning on coming back on Sunday night. Instead I get to stay an extra six days to hang out with my family who I've seen for a total of like 6 days in the past nine months. What can I say, I'm a momma's girl.
Oh and did I mention that my brother and sister-in-law, and my two nephews (including my newest who was born in the spring that I have yet to see) are going to be there for the week too?? So maybe you can see why I was more than willing to take a week off. I am ecstatic.

So here's what I'm sure you're all actually reading this post for- the giveaway. I'm giving away a $20 Target gift card to one lucky reader because Target's a favorite of mine (and I know it's a favorite of many of you as well). All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me the best thing that's happened to you so far this summer. Or the last thing you celebrated. That's it. I'll pick a winner by random on Sunday, July 6th at 10:00 PM EST (I would do midnight but I'll be in bed then).

The most exciting thing I have celebrated last last couple of months is graduating from my master's degree program! I too am in the job market... and may have good news coming later this week! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Well congrats on the new job! I actually have an interview today at a company that had originally turned me down. And the good news...it is right across the street from Peter's building. Literally, right across the street.
Where in Kansas does your family live? I lived in Kansas for three and a half years. Congrats on the new job!!!

Congrats on the new job - that's so exciting! And I am definitely jealous that you'll be able to walk to work. How nice!!
Congrats on the new job and apartment!! And you can't beat the no-traffic commute!
My best thing this summer was my trip to Hawaii with my husband :)
I'm so excited for you Britni! Walk to work? That sounds wonderful! I cut my commute down to 30 minutes, but that's still 30 minutes longer than I wish it was.
I think that the most exciting this summer was probably moving. We're starting to (finally) get things up on the living room walls, so it's start to feel like home.
Where will you be in Kansas?
The best thing I've done so far this summer was spend some one-on-one time with my grandma, who I haven't seen in over a decade. I think she enjoyed it too because she kept asking people to go find me to come talk to her. Out of 50 or so grandkids that's not too shabby. :P
The best thing that's happened to me recently is my dad calling and offering to fly me home for a week vacation for my birthday!! I haven't seen my parents since January...and it's going to be black berry season when we go...nothing like fresh blackberry cobbler--yumm.
I'm so happy for you! Your job sounds like a dream come true! Will you have a similar position to your current one?
The best thing to happen to me this summer, is newly introduced summer hours! 40 hours in 4.5 days = Friday afternoons off!
SO many congratulations on all these positive changes! Your summer's definitely off to a great start!
The last thing I celebrated was my boyfriend's new job, and my glowing annual review & raise, which I had totally forgotten was coming. Good news all around!

The best thing that has happened to me so far this summer? Our trip to the beach with so many family members there too... two of my favorite things (family and the beach!) together is a blessing!
Best thing this summer? I can finally run 1 mile without stopping. lol. Haven't been able to do that for several years.
Congratulations on your new job! the walking commute is great !!!!I hope the pkgs will be able to survive your new Apts the best thing i am celebrating recently is that Z's papers are all in and after one more interview this Sun they will be all the way in and sent

btw...i did you 'dear nurse' question. check it out!
This summer I haven't turned my AC on yet...and that's a darn good thing considering how much my bill is going to spike once I give in!
That's great news! I love the fact that you can walk to your new job.
Best thing that happened to me would have to be finding my own new place after crashing at the boyfriend's place for several months. Not that I don't love being around him, but I was ready to get out of the bachelor pad.
have a great trip visiting home!
best thing this summer.. adopting another dog!! Her name is Lexie, and she enjoys snausages, Glamour magazine, and belly rubs.
clearly the way to get comments is to give something away!
the best thing this summer- deciding to stay in NYC. it was a tough decision but made me super happy in the end.
p.s.- congratulations!!!
Hey Britni...just found your blog! AND I love giveaways. A lot.
The best thing that happened to me so far this summer was returning to America from Southeast Asia. Never take a baby to Southeast Asia.
I have a big pregnant belly this summer and that is new to me and really cool but I am also very happy just to have my family with me this summer!I am lucky,I guess!
I survived my first "invite the whole class" birthday party!
I finally had my baby daughter on May 8. :-) I was so tired of being pregnant, and I love being a new mommy. :-) Thanks!

I've been celebrating my new back yard! We got a new driveway and patio area with a gazebo. I LOVE lounging out there and we desperately needed some shade from the sun. Wish me luck!
I think I can officially call my oldest son toilet trained, just in time for #3!
I've enjoyed my time with my kids. That always seems like a celebration. I've got a four month old and a 22 month old. I've been loving the time outside with them and the exploration of new things. I LOVE Target. I'm there all the time and this gc would go towards something fun to do outside with my two little boys.
We celebrated our 2 year anniversary. Also that my 2.5 year old son is starting to talk and use the potty. :) its the small things. :)
The best thing that has happened to me this summer is my husband has started to take his bike to work every other day. That means I actually get to use the car and my son and I aren't stuck at home or out walking in the heat all the time!
momabr at yahoo.com
My husband finished his Bachelor's Degree and is now actually home to spend time with me and our 7-month-old son!
hannademaster@yahoo.com
not much is happened. kindof depressing. i would have to say my son started sleeping, allowing me to sleep in
Our youngest daughter was born this summer!
So far the best thing has been my husband finishing school--which leaves our lives much more laid-back and relaxed so we can spend time together and with our kids.
This is the first summer as a mom, and it has been pretty great.
hetz-junk(at)hotmail(dot)com
I started exercising again! I had a really difficult pregnancy - wasn't allowed to exercise at all, spent 3 months on bed rest and gave birth to a preemie. She's now 18 months (and perfect), but between her and work I hadn't figured out how to fit in exercise time. Now I've got it figured out and I feel great! And we're going to the beach next week!
The best thing that happened to me this summer was finding out that baby #4 is a girl, now we will complete our family and have 2 boys and 2 girls!
We found out we have enough saved for a down payment on a house! So now we're looking!
byubabe14 at yahoo dot com
The most exciting thing is that since I am a teacher, I get to be off this summer with my new baby boy! He's 7 months today, and rolling around, scooting, standing, eating, all those fun things and I get to be with him!!
This past Sunday, my hubby and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary, as well as my hubby's 31st birthday. My wonderful mom-in-law watched our 3 girls for us so we could go to our annual lunch at our anniversary only restaurant (House of Kobe). After, my hubby treated me to a shopping spree at Bath and Body Works. Love you, babe!
jceko77@yahoo.com
The best thing that has happened to me this summer is getting to sleep in! During the school year, we have to get up so early. So my daughter and I are sleeping in. My husband is jealous :)
Congratulations on the job and apartment! It's nice to hear someone so happy and grateful for something in their lives.
I'd say the best thing that has happened to me so far this summer is that my baby boy has reached the 3 month old mark. That means he's less crabby and more smiley. It means the world to a new and frazzled mom. Thanks for sharing, and good luck with your job! My husband works close to home and eats lunch with us every day and it's priceless. You get away from the job for a while and can relax more at home than in the cafeteria.
We're going to a family reunion this weekend - I haven't seen most of the people for almost 2 years and I'm so excited! That will be the best part of the summer. afdr3d@umkc.edu
Most exciting? Hmmm... or last thing we celebrated? Our autistic son is FULLY potty trained. (He is almost 5) At night & durng the day! It's awesome!!!!
Eileen-Lilly(at)hotmail(dot)com
This summer we've finally gotten around to doing a lot of house improvements that have been languishing. A sticky door, new kitchen walls (paint instead of ugly paneling and wallpaper), and new lighting in the basement.
It's hard work, but great when it's done!
Our life has been pretty laid back lately, with not a lot going on, including birthdays or other celebrations. It isn't even time for our wedding anniversary yet. I guess the biggest thing is that our daughter recently started karate, and she is getting her next belt on Sunday (hopefully, though I am pretty sure she will).
michelle at northofthe49 dot com
The best thing to happen so far is I got a phone call from an old friend in Arkansas that I've been trying to locate for years. It was very unexpected and she is coming out to see us in the fall.
The best thing that has happened to us lately is a new house. Not just a new house but our first house. We are officially homeowners though we don't close until the 18th. I could really use that gift card as we are officially BROKE homeowners :)
Congrats on the new job. And have fun with your family. I live in KS :)
My lil brother got married! Thats what we last celebrated!
My daughter got engaged and will be married next summer, she's my youngest and I am so excited to see the love in their eyes continue to grow since they have been dating for 4 years!
My husband and I found out we were going to have another baby!

My husband got an unexpected promotion along with a huge raise! Great way to start off the summer.
This summer i've realized i've met the man i'm going to marry. =]
Guess it's the summer of baby love! My husband and I too found out we are expecting our first child! Found out the same day one of my best friends was getting married so it was an awesome way to start the summer of 2008! :)
It's actually been a bit of a rough summer for us, but I'm hoping it will get better. I'm interviewing for jobs too. And we're going on vacation in a couple of weeks. I think that will be the thing we celebrate the most!
Beginning Marathon Training. Big deal around here.
Celebrating a little independence. Stay at home mom for over two years now, but left the babies with grandma for a week strait to get certified as an aquatics director. Came home and worked boyscout camp for three weeks, training boys to become skilled in all things water related: lifegaurd, swimming, canoeing, sailing, etc. Go me!
The last thing we celebrated was our son's conversion to Judaism!
The best thing that has happened to me this summer is that we sold our home and have moved to an area where we can officially afford for me to stay home with my 3 boys. So the cherry on top of the cake was sending my resignation to my job yesterday. Too cool.
my son learned to spell his name and he is so excited!
The last thing I celebrated was my birthday in Las Vegas with my husband!
We love to celebrate. We just celebrated my birthday, then the independance day for DR Congo, and now 4th of July for the US. I wonder what we will celebrate next?...
The best thing that happened to me so far this summer was our 12 day vacation. We visited family from far away and it was such a good trip!
Two new friends. What a gift!
Well, last week I got to have my first ultrasound of my first baby - that was a pretty exciting thing :)
My baby boy just turned one and we had his first birthday party. Day of love and laughs!

samsakara@twcny.rr.com
We celebrated my daughters 2nd birthday and her learning to crawl after the physical therapists telling us she might never crawl. Its a good day!
After a year and a half of my son facing debilitating rashes and cracks on his feet and dozens of different medications we finally have a diagnosis. Sadly there is no effective treatment but atleast we can throw out all the yucky drugs and chemicals now! :-( That is the biggest news at our home so far this summer.
The best thing is yet to come.... My two oldest daughters are having a double wedding on July 19th. I have four daughters but no sons. On that day I will get two sons. I am really looking forward to it.
best is yet to come when my son goes to sleep away camp!!!
oooh congrats on the new job!! AND a new apt! that is veryyy exciting, because you get to decorate, and that's fun :).
We're a family of five and this summer is the first year all of the kids are old enough to really appreciate and have fun camping. That's the best thing we've done so far!
gkstratos@ yahoo.com
We celebrated my Great-grandmother's 82nd birthday! I'd love to win this to help pay for my daughter's birthday present she want's a Fancy Nancy doll sold exclusively at Tar-shae. This would pay for half.
The best thing hasn't quite happened yet... We are waiting for our second child, ourdaughter to arrive, who we should be meeting by next week!:)
My very best celebration this summer was my first cruise. went to alaska.
But have been celebrating every day almost.
It was mine and my honey's big 70 and we are starting a new life style.
Celebrating Big Time!
Well, a little bit early, but will be helping my Aunt and Uncle celebrate their 50th anniversary this Sunday coming up. Lots of family will be there and I'm really excited about it! And your new kitchen is beautiful!! I'll trade you?
The best thing? Well, my husband treated me to a great massage and day at the spa...while he took care of the boys! Oh, it was deliriously fantastic!
Yay for so many good things going on in your life!
The last thing I celebrated was my sweet 16 month old nephew FINALLY walking on his own. We were starting to get a little worried about him, but he apparently just decided it was time and off he went! :)
I got a FREE one hour massage from a friend in massage school and then a free hair cut/color from a friend who is a stylist!! Woot!

The best thing have been the free programs at the library. The kids learn a lot and I get to sit back for a little while without the kids crawling all over me. And unlike the park or the zoo, it's air conditioned. Our librarians are wonderful. I love taking the kids to the library and I've especially loved it this summer.
The best thing that has happened so far is my husbad bought me a brand new camera after my old one went missing. Now I am able to take plenty of pictures of my family this summer and make up a scapbook. I'm THRILLED!!!!!

And yes, Target is great. I am never at a loss as to "will i find something?"
Congrats! I've got lots of family in KS, too (north of wichita) so I'm jealous you get to go! The best thing that's happened to us is my aunt and uncle from KS came out to visit us. It's the first time in 10 years we've had someone visit us from there! (our newborn baby they came to see came in April, so I didn't count that as the best thing!)
I got approved for a mortgage this summer!
Dh started a great new job 3 months ago and he got a really great pay raise yesterday!
I am celebrating the birth of my first child. Most of my life I was told I would never be able to have my own children. So having my own son is an amazing gift I have been given. I am truly blessed and so thankful for what a gift and joy I have been given. My son is so amazing. :) I am a very proud new mommy!!!

My Dad didn't die. Seriously, he had to be taken to the ER and it really scared me but he is going to be OK - everything is "fixable".
As you know, the Olympic Track & Field Trials came to Eugene, OR and are still here through Sunday! It's been the greatest place to live having all these athletes strolling around everywhere I go.

the best thing for me this summer? I'm going out to visit my sister in California. I haven't seen her in almost 2 years and we've both had babies since then. (she had twins, so she is one up on me!)

My 2-year-old daughter in the early intervention program because she has a speech delay. She is also a a huge Blue's Clues fan so when she saw my sorority T-shirt that had some paw prints on it she said, "A Clue, a clue!" It's always a cause for celebration when she says a new word or phrase.

Congrats on all your awesome news. That's a whole list for a Thanks journal. The thing I'm the most thankful for is that we finally found someone to do the cement job for our back patio and it was done yesterday, great looking job. The guy who had told us in March he would do it still hadn't done it. So I am thankful we found someone else to do it.

So far the best thing this summer was my son coming to visit, as we hadn't seen him since the holidays! It was so wonderful to get to spend time with him. I don't mind the empty nest, as long as my children are only a short drive away, but he is in Massachussetts and we are in Ohio, so I miss him a lot!
Three years after a major stroke, I'm finally able to be on my feet enough to get back into obedience training and showing with my dogs.
The best thing that's happened to me is all the company I've had since moving to Florida. I see more relatives now than when I lived in the same town!
The best thing that has happened to me this summer is actually getting to take my family on a vacation and all of the kids staying healthy while we were gone! By the way, Mickey says hello!
Congrats on the new job. Sounds perfect - no gas required, lunch at home, throw in a load of laundry, read the mail, etc.
Love Target, especially the stationery dept. Thanks for entering me.
Best thing this summer was our family vacation to CA. We visited Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Yosemite. Awesome trip!
The best thing about summer is having fun with my 2 kids eating strwaberry shortcake, putting how feet in the pool, doing good for others, and lucky that we are all healthy. My daughter karlee was diagnosed with hearing problems.
I am 72 years old and every morning I get up raring to go, able to go. I helped my friend open her new store. I laugh everyday, and make someone else laugh and appreciate what we have accomplished this life. One of the best things was going to my sons house in Sparta Mo for his Stream Team and help clean the river, about 70 people helped. Great Summer
Hi, I just had a Birthday the 19th of June. And my husband surprised me by taking me to the Red Lobster for dinner. You might not think there isn't anything special about this, but he hasn't taken me out to dinner in 7 years. True, True, True, wonder if he's feeling quilty about something ;) ???????
The sun finally came out here in Seattle. We went from an entire month of June at 52 degrees and raining to 91 and sunny last weekend. Yeah!
Come back soon to 3giraffes! I love finding all of these new blogs, courtesy of Swistle.
I'm celebrating that winter is long over. We've been looking at that ugly cover over the pool for nine months. Now there's beautiful crystal clear water to splash in!
the greatest thing is having more time to spend with my family!
My daughter who hated high school, and almost never started college, graduated from Webster University with a Masters in Business this spring at the age of 32.
My 3 year old son is really including his 1 year old sister more. Life is much more relaxing and much more fun!
Picking vegtables from our garden! It is a lot of work, but very rewarding, especially in these days of rising food prices.
My most memoranle moment for the summer was attending my 20th high school reunion! WOW, people sure do change after 20 years!
Congratulations!!! That's a LOT of good stuff happening all at once. We've moved into our dream house as well (just a week ago) and are absolutely ecstatic. Now I get to spend the rest of the summer decorating!!!
The best thing that's happened to me this summer is a promotion at my job. I worked really hard for this promotion and am very proud of it.
Congrats to you on your job. Sounds great and you will be saving lots of money on gas, lucky you!!!!
Thanks for having the great giveaway!
The best I did was go back to work after being home for 5 years. I'll still be home, (i'm telecommuting), but the pay is sure nice.

The best thing about my summer is caring for my first granddaughter. 3 months old. I love cuddling her & yes, spoiling her.
My best thing is still a work in progress...moving into our house after we finish it! Of course I have had so many blessings this summer! Blake is almost finished with school and will be getting a new job, I am now a stay at home wife, and so many other things!
I am so thrilled for you that you will be starting a new job and that it is so close to your new home! No more parking tickets for you! Have a great visit with your family! The extra days I am sure will be great!
I remembered to prepare a fancy card, decorated with crayons, for my wife of 37 years--while she lay in a hospital bed waiting results of blood tests for kidney problems. All's well, she's home, and the card is taped to our bedroom room as a memento
I am expecting my first grandchild any day now. We are VERY excited!!
I had my second child this summer, the same day my husband started his new job after a long 3 month search! Thank goodness for babies, and a method to pay for them! :)
I got a complement from my boss, best thing this summer! After losing power to half of Cedar Rapids during the flood and evacuating one of your two hospitals, I worked hard for the radiologists to get patient records complete and accurate.
Always, my grandchildren. (3) My grandaughter stays with me while her Mom works, and we have a great time. My two grandsons were both chosen to be on the ALLSTARS of both their Little League Teams. I have enjoyed watching them excel in what they enjoy the most!
My youngest sister's little boy, my nephew came to our city for the past month and I got to spend time with him. He just turned 8 so we had a birthday party for him and it was so much fun!
He loves to play board games which I hadn't tried in a long time, so that was kind of rejuvenating for me. I hated to see him go back home.
One son graduated from college and one son graduated from high school!
My son's baseball had a winning season, after 4 long years - yay! Thanks for the contest and congrats on your new job.
My father was in the hospital, it was a 4hour drive away. But he's better now and home.
the best thing is the news that my library is finally getting ready to be renovated after 60 years!
I got new hardwood floors in my living room and study! Woo hoo! Now I sweep up a small dog equivalent in hair everyday! That used to be in my carpet!!! YUCK!!
The best thing about my summer so far has been having the opportunity to visit my friends in DC! We had a blast! Don't wait too long to visit old friends! We decided to make the choice to meet every year.
By far the very best thing that could happen this summer and did was being told I was gonna be a first time grandma!
So far I have spent alot of good time with my kids.
The last thing I celenrated was uesterday - mu Mom's 90th birthday! :-) COngrats on the new job & no commute.
The best thing that's happened this summer is watching my son learn to swim! His confidence has increased tremendously and he's so proud of himself.
I traded in my old gas guzzler for a new fuel efficient car.
We just celebrated something fun in our house...we just finished painting our kitchen. It was a big project because it involved removing nearly 30 year old wallpaper and getting everything prepared so it was nice and clean for the painting. We finished on July 3. My kitchen looks so nice and clean and fresh now! The new curtains are hung and everything looks so "finished"!
Thanks for the giveaway and congrats to all on the nice things you're celebrating.
Congrats on the new job, and also for your upcoming trip to hang with your family. The best thing that has happened to me this summer is that my mom moved up here to Oregon. She now lives 5 minutes away and comes over to play with my son and run errands with us. It has been so great!
Congrats on the new job! That's really exciting. And your new kitchen is gorgeous!
The best thing to happen to me lately is that after waiting to be parents for 4 years, my hubby and I were picked by a birthmom to adopt her baby in August!! We are SO excited!

The best thing I did this summer was go to a four day work week instead of five to spend more time with my baby. I have to work because we have to pay the bills. I'm glad I'm able to spend an extra day every week with my baby who's the most important person in my life.
Being able to have my daughter spend time with both of her grandmothers. Family is so important and grandmas and granddaughters have such a special bond!
Brit! Congrats on the new job and getting home to see the fam! I am happy for you! We might get to see them the end of this month too so I am so excited! Okay, the best thing that has happened to me so far this summer?!?!?! Well, I have two: 1) we moved into the new house!!! YEAH!!!!! and 2) I finished the summer semester with a 3.5! Not bad for having two babies and building a house huh?!?!?! Have fun in Kansas! Hug the fam for me and kiss Brazen and Jace for me!!!!
I found out that I was expecting and got offered some new jobs :)
We are moving to a new home - it is 2x the size of our current home so we are very excited.
